Pennsylvania's Dog Laws can be summarized as follows: 1. All dogs three months of age or older must be licensed and display tags issued by the county treasurer. 2. All dogs three months of age or older must have current rabies vaccinations. 3. All dogs must be under control and may not be allowed to run at large. Dogs are personal property and owners are responsible for damages caused by dogs. 4. It is illegal to mistreat or abuse any animal. Violations should be reported to the local humane organization or police. 5. You may not place any poison or harmful substance in any place where it may easily be found and eaten by dogs, whether it be your property or elsewhere. 6. It is illegal to abandon or attempt to abandon any dog. Fines for abandonment range from $300 to $1000 plus court costs. 7. No dog under seven weeks old may be bartered, traded, sold, or transferred. 8. You must have a current kennel license if you operate a kennel that keeps, harbors, boards, shelters, sells, gives away or transfers a total of 26 or more dogs in any one calendar year.
9. It is illegal to interfere with an officer or employee of the Pennsylvania
Department of Agriculture engaged in enforcement of dog laws. Licenses can be purchased at: Mike's Bait & Sport Shop 610-759-2905, 328 E. Lawn Rd., Nazareth, PA 18064 or Northampton County Court House, Treasurers Office, 610-559-3000, 669 Washington St., Easton, PA 18042. If you have a dog, please call the Township office at 610-759-6944 to let us know this, as there are numerous times throughout the year that both the police and road departments pick up strays. The Township Office will make every effort to find the owner prior to the animal being taken to the SPCA. having this information on file will help us find the owner without having to waste precious time.
